Laura Kay House was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and has lived in Atlanta, GA; Marblehead, MA; Baltimore/Annapolis, MD and now is happy to call the Triangle area of North Carolina home.
Ms. House has a Bachelor of Social Work undergraduate degree and a Master’s degree in Gerontology. Her expertise is in working with the biology and psychology of aging, grief and loss, the positive benefits of socializing on physical and mental health and reinventing ones life after 55. Laura Kay’s experience is also in event planning, working as a lifestyle facilitator in real estate for exclusively those age 50+, as a bereavement specialist and also spent many years as a flight attendant for Delta Air Lines.
Laura Kay is the owner of Silver Connections, founded after fulfilling a continued lifelong passion of working with individuals age 55+. After many years of research and planning, Ms. House concluded that there were limited opportunities available for age “55 and better” adults, who were young and active, to meet others who were also single after the death of a spouse, divorce or never married. Laura Kay wanted to provide quality events and travel as opportunities to meet others of the same age, with similar experiences, in a safe and pressure-free environment that was not a dating or matchmaking service. She decided to take her vision, past experience and education and began Silver Connections as a full-time business. Numerous socializing opportunities are provided for members through local events and travel while stressing personal service and a sense of community within membership.
Laura Kay is a member of HART (Health Affairs Round Table), the A.W.A.R.E group of Wake County, a volunteer and meal organizer working with The Ronald McDonald House and The Caring House, as well as involved in many other organizations. She was awarded the “Womens Etc.!” Award in 2009 as a Triangle Community Entrepreneur and was a distinguished ”Potters Hand Senior Advocacy Award” Honoree in 2011 for her work with Silver Connections.
